The United States cosmetics market is renowned as one of the most valuable beauty and personal care markets globally, boasting an impressive worth of $90 billion. Let us examine the prevailing trends that captivate American consumers.
In response to these trends:
Suminjia™ raw materials, derived from a composite of five botanical extracts – Astragalus Membranaceus root, Saposhnikovia Divaricata root, Calendula Officinalis Flower, Albizia Julibrissin flower, and Gastrodia Elata root – exhibit remarkable skin calming and soothing properties. This potent blend effectively addresses skin sensitivity across five dimensions: anti-itch, redness reduction, alleviating swelling, easing tightness, and diminishing tingling sensations. Clinical trials indicate that this cosmetic ingredient is beneficial for acne-prone skin; it not only regulates sebum production but also balances the skin’s microbiota. After 28 days of consistent application, the skin’s barrier function is enhanced, and sebum production is diminished by 20%. B-Lightyl™, an active ingredient derived from blue biotechnology, is suitable for all skin tones and effectively combats spots and pigmentation.
In 2021, the lingering effects of the pandemic persisted. Prolonged mask-wearing resulted in numerous skin concerns for consumers. Consequently, consumers devoted greater attention to self-care, particularly skincare. According to consumer feedback, skincare routines not only bolstered their well-being but also ameliorated their skin issues1. As happiness is considered the quintessential manifestation of health, beauty is intrinsically linked to one’s emotional state. The release of endorphins during moments of happiness fortifies the skin’s barrier2.
Our response to this trend:
To cater to this trend, Yussen R&D Center’s active beauty product department has developed Suminjia™, a series comprising five plant extracts, including marigold, albizia, and gastrodia. To inspire product developers and address both internal and external beauty aspects, our experts meticulously devised a dual-purpose beauty concept based on Calendula (with skin purifying properties) and Gastrodia (with gloss properties). This innovative concept product is available in two distinct forms: a detoxifying mask and an edible powder that, when mixed with water, offers skincare benefits. Givaudan’s product range also encompasses a plethora of plant extracts, such as Nootropics, a series of botanical extracts that soothe, purify, and hydrate the skin.
Fueled by social media and influencers, products targeting Generation Z and millennials continue to capture an expanding market share. These young consumers aspire to achieve flawless, blemish-free skin. However, their strong ecological awareness motivates them to seek skin-friendly products with minimal environmental impact. Consequently, they demand higher product quality and more ethically sourced raw materials.
